How to take your fingerprints at home

Pencil and tape method
Step 1: Clean and dry your finger, prepare a piece of plain white paper, a pencil and clear tape.
Step 2: Rub a patch of pencil (approx. 2 x 2 cm) on the paper until shiny but not too dark.
Step 3: Lightly press your finger onto the pencil patch to coat it. Coat your finger sparingly but evenly, do not make it too dark).
Step 4: Carefully press your finger onto clear sticky tape (on the sticky side).
Step 5: Peel the tape and stick it onto clean white paper. You would want prints with clear lines, no smudges or uneven patches. Repeat for a few samples.
Step 6: Take clear, close-up photos of the fingerprints. Make sure of good lighting, no shadows. Or scan at 300 dpi and save as JPG or PNG. Email or upload the images. We will select the best one and proceed with engraving.

Fingerprint Ink pad method
Step 1: Clean and dry your fingers to remove oil.
Step 2: Lightly press your finger onto the ink pad. Coat your finger sparingly but evenly. Don’t press too hard. Light, even pressure shows most detail.
Step 3: Gently touch your finger straight down on the paper, holding for 1-2 seconds. Avoid smudges by holding your finger still and not moving rolling your finger. You would want prints with clear lines, no smudges or uneven patches. Repeat for a few samples.
Step 4: Take clear, close-up photos of the fingerprints. Make sure of good lighting, no shadows. Or scan at 300 dpi and save as JPG or PNG. Email or upload the images. We will select the best one and proceed with engraving.
